Toshiba CA3W Printhead – High-Quality Industrial Inkjet Printhead

The Toshiba TEC CA3W is the water-channel variant of the CA3 industrial on-demand piezoelectric inkjet printhead. It retains the same core jetting performance as the standard CA3 while adding a built-in water channel in the ceramic chassis for improved temperature control and jetting stability.

The CA3W features 318 active nozzles at a native resolution of 150 dpi with 169 μm nozzle spacing. Multi-drop greyscale technology delivers 8 levels of greyscale with a drop volume range of 6–42 pL. Typical firing frequency ranges from 13.8 kHz at 1 drop down to 2.8 kHz at higher drop counts.

The printhead is equipped with two ink inlet ports (which can be converted to a single-inlet configuration) and is compatible with both oil-based pigment and UV-curable inks. The integrated water channel enables more uniform temperature distribution across the head, supporting consistent performance in continuous industrial operation.

The CA3W was widely used in early industrial UV flatbed and hybrid systems and remains available as a genuine replacement for machines originally equipped with this model.

Technical Precision & Operational Advisory

Installation Warning

Printhead installation must be performed by a qualified technician following the official procedures of the printer manufacturer. Incorrect handling can permanently damage the nozzle plate, electronics or ink system.

  • ESD Protection: Always use a grounded wrist strap and anti-static surface when opening the packaging and handling the printhead. Piezo printheads are highly sensitive to electrostatic discharge.
  • Power Isolation: Completely power down and isolate the printer before removing or installing the printhead. Do not hot-swap.
  • Water Channel: The CA3W incorporates a built-in water channel. Ensure the cooling circuit is correctly connected and operating within the recommended temperature range before jetting.
  • Ink Inlet Configuration: The head is supplied with two ink inlet ports. These can be modified to a single-inlet assembly if required by the printer design.
  • Ink Compatibility: Use only oil-based pigment or UV-curable inks approved for the specific printer model. Non-approved fluids can damage the head.
  • Handling Factory-Sealed Unit: Do not break the seal until ready for installation. Once the printhead has been exposed to ink or installed, it is considered used and cannot be returned.
  • Variant Verification: Confirm that your machine specifically requires the CA3W (water-channel) version rather than the standard CA3. Mechanical and fluid interfaces may differ.

Compatible Models & Systems

The Toshiba TEC CA3W is confirmed compatible with the following systems (among others):

  • Océ Arizona 200 GT / 250 GT
  • Fujifilm Acuity Advance HD2504
  • Flora F1-180UV / F1-250UV
  • Mimaki UJF-605RII / UJF-605C (and related early models)

Recommendation: Always verify the exact part number or marking on the existing printhead and consult the machine service documentation. The CA3W is not a universal drop-in replacement for later CA4, CE4 or CF-series heads without confirmation of mechanical, electrical and fluid compatibility.

Terms, Warranty & Customer Protection
